I remember “Day After Tomorrow” and the controversy it caused- the network couldn’t even get advertising for the second half of it – but played it anyway. It was depressing to say the least, but it was “Threads”, I believe, that was downright devastating. Talk about envying the dead! So, yeah, I distinctly remember growing up and knowing that I wasn’t likely to live to a ripe old age, due to nuclear war.

HA! This is exactly the conversation I had with friends last week – surely padded bikinis are the last things paedophiles want. In fact, I may have to start a campaign to have all political parties agree to cross-party support for issuing padded bikinis and merkins to every child under 12 for their own protection.

I actually think this program might even have been shown to me at school! I guess it’s all very well educating children of the dangers but really what is the point when the knowledge cannot be applied in any shape or form. If a child is going to be vaporized by a nuclear blast, then I guess it’s better he knows as little about what is going happen as possible.

Protect and Survive was really just about false hope. You were dead before realised it was all crap. Perhaps the government hated this program for this exact reason. ‘Well done, QED – thanks. There’s not a single person in the whole of the UK who has a single chance of survival, and now they have to carry on their day to day lives, knowing it”.

I have not read any of the MM genre. The ‘Cosmic Trigger’ series by Robert Anton Wilson contains its fair share of Pain, but Mr Wilson seems to chosen the path of hope over despair.

I wonder if our propensity for voyeurism is an offshoot of our humanity. It seems that there is a fine line between empathy and compassion of the one hand and voyeuristic enjoyment of other peoples misery and misfortune on the other.

In the end one either chooses to see the glass as half empty or half full.

I’ve watched an awful lot of horror films, and as many books on the subject, but the Enigma of Amigara Fault tops the lot. A bit like the holes themselves, you can’t unsee it. What gets me is, as weird and abstract a concept it is, it somehow feels totally believable. I can see people wantonly stepping into these holes, even when they know it’s death waiting.
Yeah, I think this is actually scarier than the mutilation and demise. It’s the fact that you just *know* on that mountain there is *your* hole, and once you know it’s there, you’re as good as dead. Unlike Dracula or Freddy Kruegar, the hole doesn’t need to come looking for you. You’re going to walk right in.

I never quite pictured the debris in Downtown, assuming people would clean up such mess simply so they wouldn’t have to walk over it / could build lean-tos in alleys / need firewood. I’d see the Cannibal sectors like New Orleans the day after the flood if it were in the Gaza strip. Flooded streets, stinking floating garbage, buildings missing thier top two floors or just a pile of concrete on the ground.

And more violence.

For all the utter obsessing I did over SLA for all those years, I’ve only ever played in two games. Just two.

I didn’t need anything else but those books to enjoy the ideas they generated day in and day out.

Plus I don’t know many roleplayers here, it isn’t my home town. meh.

For the record, next year will be the first time Dava and I have sat down to do a SLA book together since Karma, and we all know how that turned out.

I blame you guys for everything (well that and the wine I’ve drunk tonight)

I always ment to write but if it wasn’t for SLA I’d not have started a website full of bad early writing. If it wasn’t for that website I’d not have had the practice at writing fast to write the 7th Sea review for Valkyrie in barely an evening and then all my Valk articles and my drip, drip, drip of other stuff since.

So keep putting it out as you have time and us sad SLA fans will love you all the more for it being right rather than right on a deadline.

Awesome news! I love SLA with all of my obsolete
cybernetic heart which I keep functioning by extracting
the blood of stupid ops who keep trying to fill that BPN death card.

I haven’t been able to get a group to let me run it again
in a while, but I may have new group lulled into
complacency, unsuspecting of my true nature when
given Slayer’s world to run.

It’s always worth the wait. No matter how long that wait is.

SLA is by far the greatest game I ever played. The only game I was ever compelled to run. A game I loved so vividly it generated a whole new world in my head [Aborym] which my players agreed was the best setting they’d ever experienced.

Yeah, I always thought Pickled Onion were a over-fried, and greasy. It’s got a better Monster though, but not as good as the Flamin Hot Monster – I mean what the fuck is that thing? It might make a good Necanthrope though…..
